NATO investigating civilian casualties in airport attack

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): NATOinfo-icon said on Thursday its forces had mistakenly targeted a house during a raid which caused casualties near the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

Three Talibaninfo-icon were fired rockets from the house into the airport and other military buildings on Wednesday, an hour after the US defense secretary arrived in Kabul.

Acting MoI spokesman, Najibullah Danish, told Pajhwok Afghan News one of the rockets hit a house near the airport, killing one person of and wounding 11 others. He said the injured, all of a family, included six womeninfo-icon and children.

Danish added a 45-year-old woman was killed while five others were wounded by Taliban-fired rockets. The attack ended with the killing of the three assailants on Wednesday evening.

On the other hand, NATO Resolute Support Mission said their forces mistakenly hit a civilian house, causing casualties. However, it did not give specific figures.

NATO expressed concern over the incident, saying it had been trying to prevent civilian casualties in operations against terrorists. They would investigate the mistake.

Both Daesh and Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
